History of the Company
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
Government of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic has decided
in March, 1960 to create a consortium "Uralskneftegazrazvedka"
for conducting oil and gas exploration in the Uralsk region. The
first company office in Uralsk was located in the building currently
occupied by the historical museum. Lev Dmitriyev has become the
first general manager of the company, while Boris Khakhaev became
the chief engineer and Ensun Kan became the chief geologist. Within
the first year the company created three fully equipped exploration
parties as well as the transportation and supply departments.
In
the 60-s, the consortium was involved in more than 59 exploration
projects. Within a year of its creation, it became well known
in the USSR and in 1961 it was assigned to drill Aralsorksaya
well - one of two was approved for deep drilling with designed
depth of 7000 meters - using a domestic drill rig. At the time,
it was an impressive achievement. The crane for the assembly of
the drill rig did not exist and the problem had to be resolved
locally. The unique foundation for the drill rig was designed
by Boris Khakhaev. The final depth of the well was 6808 meters.
At
the time, most of the exploration projects were conducted on salt
dome structures. It is then that such oil fields as Bolganmoly,
Chingiz, Beket, Kubasai (with 130-230 thousand tonnes reserves)
and such gas fields Auketaichagyl, Port-Arthur, Karachai (with
150-300 mln cub. meters reserves) were discovered.
In 1970, the consortium was renamed "Uralsk Enlarged Oil-Gas
Exploration Expedition". Since then, the exploration work
was primarily conducted in the Northern boundary zone of the Caspian
Depression on the below-salt structures. However, the initial
results of the exploratory activities were unsuccessful which
led the Ministry of the Geology of the USSR to request cessation
of the exploratory works. However, due to the confidence and persistence
of the then-chief geologist A. Alzhanov, the works were continued.
On 25th of March, 1969, the first fountain of gas-condensate was
obtained on Well No. 5 in the West-Teplovskaya area. Subsequently,
nine more gas-condensate and oil-condensate fields were discovered
in this boundary zone. During that period, while efforts were
made to discover promising areas, it became clear that the majority
of the deposits were located at large depths and their recovery
will be difficult.
Understanding of the methods of drilling of complex wells has
allowed for the growth in the expertise and professionalism of
the geologists, engineers, and technologists. During that period,
the core team of the knowledgeable professionals included Tarnacskiy,
Nemtsov, Manakov, Gerasimenko, Belenkiy, Ermakov, Blinov, Kamalov,
Ivanov, Bakhtiyarov, Alzhanov, Tovma, Lapshin, Zharylgasov, Zhukalin,
Tyulegenov and others.
A special achievement of our company is the discovery of the Karachaganak
gas-condensate field in 1979. This field, marked by unique reserves
and geological structure, was discovered by the drilling team
of Mr. Lapshin. It was truly a defining moment for our company
that was possible only due to persistent and selfless work of
all geologists of our region. Currently, there are a lot of arguments
who was the first to put a dot on the structural map. Ultimately,
this is not so important. What was important was the development
of the technology of mass drilling of wells more than 5000 meters
in depth, mass demobilization and relocation of the drill rigs
to the new site, and organization of the drilling on new wells.
At the time, the company was headed by Mr. S. Kamalovwho through
his persistence and dedication has created the team capable of
solving these challenging problems.
In a relatively short period of time, Karachaganak had 15 drilling
teams. We have developed and implemented new technology for drilling
and completion, new recipes for drilling fluids, and new exploration
technologies. We have first used turbo drills using ISM drill
bits for depths of 4500m and deeper. We have also used the program
of lowering casings as one section and cementing them in one step
at any depth. This allowed mass drilling of wells to depths up
to 6500 m. During that time such talented specialists as geologists
- Bakhtiyarov, Sumkin, Matlashinsky, Gainanov, Fomin, Khusnulin;
drillers - Ermakov, Blinov, Stashkov, Prusakov, Lapshin, Zharylgasov,
Tyulegenov, Zhukalin, Len, Podgornov, Chernyaev: mechanics - Ivanov,
Kozhevnikov, Khakhaev, Iksanov, millwrights Soldatenko, Logovatovsky,
Streltsov, ironworkers Soldatenko, Logovatovsky, Streltsov, supply
workers Lyavinskov, Kustanovich and many others.
We have to point out the immense contribution into the development
of the oil industry of our colleagues from Uralsk geophysical
expedition and North-Caspian well exploration expedition. During
those years our company has been recognized as a leader in the
industry and had a chance to showcase its deep-well drilling achievements
at the All-USSR VDNH (National Trade) Fair. Thanks to the implementation
of the modern geological methods, the exploration of the Karachaganak
oil field was completed over a relatively short period of time
(1979-1988) using few wells.
In
1987, we have discovered a productive oil reservoir in the middle-devonian
formations at depths over 6000 m. It is very sad that after the
collapse of the USSR, the exploration works have stopped and neither
the government, nor KIO (Karachaganak Integrated Organization,
operator of Karachaganak field) conducted any exploration work.
In 1991-2003, the Chinarev oil-gas condensate field was discovered.
In 1993, the drilling team headed by the drilling master Mr. Len
has completed the deepest well in Asia - Dolinskaya well , 7006
meters deep.
Over the entire period of our company's activity, we have drilled
over 390 wells with total depth of 1,300,000 linear meters, we
have discovered 22 hydrocarbon fields including Teplovo-Tokarev-Gremyachin,
Kamenskaya group, Dariinskoe, Chingiz, Port-Arthur, Karachaganak,
and Chinarev.
Since the very beginning, our company has paid a lot of attention
to the community development issues. Everywhere we went, we built
modern residential housing, schools, hospitals, children summer
camps, saunas, clubs, shops, etc. Social infrastructure built
by our company can be seen in Uralsk, Podstepnoe, Furmanov, and
Zachaganskoye.
After stoppage of government financing after the collapse of the
USSR, we have started our partnership with JV "Kazakhturkmunai"
which lasted for five years. Finding a partner among foreign companies
was difficult since they considered us technically incapable of
geological and exploration work. However, with time we have earned
the trust of the oil field operators and in 1996, we have signed
the contract with JV "Stepnoi Leopard" for well retesting.
In 1998, we have signed the contract with "Zhaikmunai"
LLP for drilling a well on Chinarev field where a drill rig F-320
was used.
A milestone of particular importance in the
history of UNGG after Soviet times was joining in a consortium
of companies "Condensate" in 1998. This event gave assurance
for the better future of the Company, a certainty that its services
would be needed in oil and gas business, induced a sense of security.
As a result, the same year the Company entered into its first
contract with Zhaikmunai LLP for drilling wells in Chinarovsky
field, where an F-320 drilling unit was rigged up with an excellent
quality.
This contract was followed by other ones: with
MontazhMalikMunai LLP, JV Steppe Leopard, NBK LLP, KazakhTurkMunai
LLP, etc.
In 2005 UNGG rendered its services in drilling
wells more that 5000 m deep, as well as their testing and workover
in Chinarovsky field, wells 3000 m deep in Karatobe Yuzhnoye area
(Aktjubinsk Region). The scope of exploration works for well drilling
in 2005 exceeded 1125 million KZT. At year-end the net profit
was more than 240 million KZT.
